From the Annapolis Boat Show 2012

This comes under the category of a bipolar sewing-related and un-related blog post.  Fun at the Boat Show…

Sailrite – I meant to take a picture of me talking to Matt Grant, but I forgot!  Darn. He was gracious to take a few minutes to chat while the booth was almost packed.  I made my suggestion of needle faceplate with measurements engraved on it.  He acknowledged that home sewing machines often have that feature.  But he feels that Sailrite machines are in the industrial category which wouldn’t have measurements there.   OK I made my case.  (It could offered as an added option!)  Thanks for hearing me out, Matt!  He sold me the three piece kit with the larger magnetic fabric guide, the new thread spool holder and stitch length guide.  Seamless Sailors love the Boat Show 10% discount.

I shared the idea of the Seamless Sailor blog and he said the more the merrier!

Sunbrella – One of the fabric designers was there to help us pick awning fabric.  She gave out info on care and cleaning and provided some samples.  Thanks!

Kanberra Gel – Following the theme of saving money for the beast, the boat that seems to need everything offered at the boat show, I found a few distributors offering boat show prices on one of my fav products, Kanberra Gel.  You need to get it on sale because it is pricey.  But it really works to solve tough boat smells.  So I stop at the Kanberra booth to (what else) ask for discounts.  A couple was there trying to decide if they would like it.  I couldn’t help myself.  I had to tell my story.  David Levesque, Business Development, for the company made a video on his iPad for the Facebook page.  Check out the video and Wilson the company koala bear mascot.  If you have undesirable boat smells, you’ve found your answer with Kanberra Gel.

SSCA – Lots of new Seven Seas Cruising members aboard with the extra goodies offered at the Show.  Welcome aboard new cruising members.

It wouldn’t be the Boat Show without your favorite festival-type food.  For us it is the Fleet Club pit beef sandwich.  Others a certain hot dog or nutty buddy ice cream cone.  From what I could tell the Hendrich’s Gin tent did very well.

And the best time of all was meeting Carolyn Sherlock and Jan Irons and their husbands!  It was the launch of The Boat Galley!  What fun to meet you all at the Acme Happy Hour.  Much success to these women pursuing their dream of publishing their cookbook based on their cruising experience.
