Covering It Up – Jerry Can Covers

March 2014 - Updated post on Jerry Can Covers here. I recently made three jerry can covers - two were for the same sized cans for diesel and one for water.  The plastic jugs can degrade in the sunlight, so covers are a worthwhile project.  I started with Julie Gifford's directions in Canvas for Cruisers.  I decided to make a few modifications.  She recommends hemming the bottom after sewing the side seam.  I decided to just pin it and hem at the end after I added the top. Flags Flying Aloft

Our good friends on Second Sally gave us a Bahamian courtesy flag when we bought our boat.  Considering we were relatively newbies (and still are!), it seemed like they issued us a challenge - would we make it to the Bahamas so we could put the flag to use? It was an aspirational gift.  We are on our way! A New Idea for Enclosures

At the September 2013 Annapolis Seven Seas Cruising Association Gam one of the vendors was displaying a mock-up of what looks like a new idea in enclosure design and materials.  Considering it is a different concept I thought it was worth noting.  Canvas Creations in Annapolis has introduced a new hard top enclosure made of Starboard.  The window panels are a firm acrylic, not a soft vinyl, held between edges of Stamoid.  The panels slide on and off tracks.  The forward panel flips up.  A second track for shades or screens can be added.  Handholds made of Starboard are also available.
